Cakes


Everybody loves cakes and we can see this during parties, weddings, birthdays, anniversaries or even an ordinary day. Because of its sweetness as a desert, kids love and crave for it during snacks. Cakes are usually made up of sugar, beaten egg whites and yolk, butter or oil, flour, some varieties of milk or water, and leavening agents. Ingredient such as fruits and extracts are usually additions or substitutes for primary ingredients of cake. It can also be filled with dessert sauces or fruit preserves, icings with buttercream with marzipan decorations, piped borders or candied fruit.

In the mid 17th century, food historians noted that the forerunner of cakes today usually seen in round shapes with icing was first baked and made in Europe. The reason with this was due to a more reliable technology such as the ovens, manufacturing and availability of food molds and ingredients.

The dessert often picked up by many people is the cake during special occasions such as weddings, birthdays and other events. Countless recipes of cakes are now a booming venture of small-scale to large-scale business. Making a cake is not anymore a complicated process, while at one time substantial effort went into cake making specifically the whipping of egg foams, equipments of baking and instructions have been modified to make it simple that even the most unskilled cook may bake a cake.

There are various categories of cakes based mainly on constituents and techniques of cooking. These are the yeast cakes, cheesecakes, sponge cakes and butter cakes. As for the classification of cakes, they are accordingly intended as to the type of occasion. For instance, wedding cakes, birthday cakes, and Passover plava are all distinguished majorly based on the celebration they are intended to accompany. The role of cake in an old style of marriage in Roman Empire, also known as the confarreatio, is to share it with the newlyweds. Others cut the cake in a social ceremony in some cultures.
